I want to introduce a series of blogs I will be writing over the next few months on the subject of strategic leadership. In society today, there is a greater need than ever before for people to step up and lead. I think we would all agree that the world has become more volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA). Technology has given us the opportunity to interact and collaborate with people around the world that in the past was unimaginable. Also, the demographics of the people we work with has changed and there is an increasing number of people who can be described as “digital natives” – they were born after the introduction of the internet. There is also the opportunity to access information from many sources and this can lead to information overload. The field of leadership is no exception. As leaders look to develop their skills they find that there is an overwhelming amount of information and ideas – some may be useful and others not so helpful. The question is where to begin and what to focus on?
This series will highlight some of the aspects of leadership that I have found useful in my journey with the aim of trying to “simplify the journey to being a transformative leader”.
